Happy California Native American Day.
Today, Governor Newsom signed both  AB 81 (Ramos) and AB 2108 (Ramos) into law!
These bills are major victories for California tribal children and families. Thank you to our member tribes for your continued dedication, input and support. While our work is far from over, together we are making historic shifts in California statue, resulting in lasting, generational systems change.
AB 81 will:
- Authorize tribes to approve foster homes on an emergency basis
- Ensure the burden does not shift to tribes to find placements within ICWA requirements
- Clear up appellate court issues so all Indian children receive ICWA protections regardless of how they enter foster care
