CTFC Participates in “Stronger Together” Conference on Decolonizing Social Work

CTFC was honored to co-facilitate healing circles during the three-day Stronger Together: Days of Joint Trainingconference, hosted by Humboldt County Child Welfare in collaboration with tribal partners. The training focused on the powerful theme of “Decolonizing Social Work and the Brain Science.”

Throughout the event, NICWA Founder and Senior Advisor Terry Cross, alongside Dr. Michael Yellowbird, guided participants through thought-provoking sessions. Dr. Yellowbird presented his pioneering work in neurodecolonization, a field exploring how colonization impacts the brain and how Indigenous practices can support healing. Interwoven across the three days, Terry Cross led healing circles that invited tribal and child welfare social workers, supervisors, and administrators into deep, reflective dialogue.

These circles offered space for meaningful conversations about what it truly means to decolonize social work practice—especially when serving and working in partnership with tribal communities.
